Judith “Judi” Ann Heron (nee Hansen), 77, of Stouffville passed away unexpectedly in her home on Saturday September 27th , 2025. Judi was born in Scarborough, Ontario on May 13, 1948, to Morris and Winifred Hansen.
Judi was an incredibly accomplished, well- travelled, and intelligent woman whose kindness and quick wit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. In school, she wrote perfect calculus exams while studying mechanical engineering, but after graduating the only work in the field available to her was as a secretary to a male engineer. She found her calling in insurance instead, specializing in television and film, and earned her reputation of being the best insurer for the Canadian film industry. She helped countless productions avert and weather catastrophe with her expertise and steady demeanor.
But Judi was so much more than her impressive professional accomplishments. A fierce feminist, she was passionate about women’s rights and bodily autonomy. Judi loved dabbling in new hobbies. She was an avid woodworker, wood carver, sewist, quilter, cake decorator and a fantastic cook. She did not enjoy pottery, but she did give it a try. She even tried learning the saxophone because she adored Kenny G. She loved Italy and France, but Italy more. She hated getting dirty but loved speeding through the mud on an ATV. Judi adored her children (almost as much as her cats) and grew to love her son and daughter in law just as much. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren, just as her grandchildren and children were equally proud of her for everything she overcame and accomplished in her life.
Judi is survived by her partner of 24 years Glenn Sauvé, and her children: Meredith Heron (Asa Weinstein), Tony Heron (Farah Heron), her three grandchildren: Khalil Heron, Anissa Heron, and Luke Weinstein, and her beloved cats: Tobey and Katie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to one of Judi’s preferred charities in her name: Doctors without Borders, UNICEF Canada, or Covenant House.
A Celebration of Life in loving memory of Judi will be held on October 19th, 2025, from 3 to 7 pm at 222 Bedford Road, Toronto, ON, M5R 2K9
