John Morris Froome

August 21, 1953 — November 14, 2025

Ottawa

John was the only son of the late Ron and Audrey Froome; father of Christina (Pedro Tsamis) David (Leslie) and Jennifer (James Woodward) younger brother of Judy and Kathy; grandfather of Liam and Elijah Haldenby; Colton, Jesse and Lauren Froome; Antonia and Rowan Nicholson; Archer and Felix Woodward; Gabriella Tsamis, and step grandfather of Kyrsten, Kyle and Julia Woodward.

He was born, raised and lived his whole life in Ottawa and area, attending Highland Park and Brookfield High Schools, Algonquin College (Farrier Certificate) and St. Lawrence College, Cornwall (Class A Mechanic). John worked in construction, and shod horses for a few years, but most of his life worked as a mechanic. At one point, he taught small engines evening interest classes at Algonquin College. He co-founded SLEIGHS AWAY (with Debbie) the original, handmade, red wooden sleighs, introduced on the Rideau Canal, during Winterlude, in 1986.

John enjoyed his years trailer camping at Fawn Ridge, and Twin Pines. He was a real motorcycle enthusiast, both tinkering, re-building and riding them.

Thank you to the many staff of Granite Ridge Care Community for their good care and understanding.

Special thank you to Debbie Nixon, for years of ongoing kindness and caring, and Kevin Couturier for his friendship and giving.

At John’s request, there will be no wake or funeral. His cremains will be interred beside his parents, at Capital Memorial Gardens, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the The Kidney Foundation of Canada , Diabetes Canada , or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
