Johannes Cornelis Ouwendyk
February 10th, 1937 – April 19th, 2026
Johannes (Joe) Cornelis Ouwendyk, a beloved husband, father, Opa, and brother, was taken home to be with his Lord and Saviour on April 19th, 2026. He was surrounded by his wife and children.
Joe, a gifted man who, although not highly educated, did whatever he did well. With an eye for detail, and the patience to process complicated ideas, he never let his limited education restrict him. He was well respected by his colleagues and peers.
From a young age, Joe had a passion for sports—especially soccer, which he played enthusiastically until a knee injury brought his playing days to an early end. As the years went by, he found enjoyment in pool and other games, but it was golf that truly captured his heart. While Joe always aimed to play his best, what mattered most to him was the time spent with others on the course. Whether with old friends or new acquaintances, it was the camaraderie and connection that brought him the greatest joy. Joe’s genuine love for people shone through in every interaction
Joe is survived by his wife Dorothy who shared his life for almost 62 years, his children Ken (Norma) Ouwendyk (grand children Tyler and Kasey Ouwendyk, Cory and Katelyn Ouwendyk, Brent and Brandi Bowden, Colleen Bowden and Samantha Bowden), Monique (Ron) deVries, (grand children Amanda and Matt Monsma, Shawn and Roxanne deVries and 9 Great grandchildren). Joe’s memory will live on in the lives of those he touched through his love for them and his love for the Lord.
Joe’s surviving family are Mary (Cor- brother deceased) Ouwendyk, Martha (sister) (Gerry deceased) Shuster, Jane (John- brother deceased) Ouwendyk, Trudy (sister) and Dick Nieuwland.
A service to remember Joe Ouwendyk will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 1pm. It will take place at Heritage Fellowship Church (Holland Christian Homes). The service will be live streamed (https://www.youtube.com/@heritagefellowshipcrc4167) for those who cannot attend in person.
