Obituary

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our loving Mother, Jessie Flood who passed away suddenly and peacefully after a short illness at the Cornwall Community Hospital on May 28th, 2026, at 92 years of age.

Born in 1934 in Montreal, Quebec to Alice and William Hughes, Jessie was the youngest of 4 children, Sister Doreen (Allan) Brown, Sister Marion (Gordon) Matthews and Brother Thomas (Mary) Hughes.

Jessie lived most of her young life in St. Lambert, Quebec where she met her husband Robert (Bob) Thomas Flood. At 23 years of age, they were married on April 27, 1957, and had two daughters Brenda and Linda. She also had two lovely granddaughters Megan & Renee. They spent their married life in St. Hubert, Quebec as we called Brentwood.

Jessie was dearly loved by everyone who knew her. She was Auntie Jessie to many nieces and nephews who will truly miss her strength & wisdom.

Jessie was a very giving person and would help anyone who needed it. She spent time being a caregiver to her husband, Robert for over 3 years during his illness before he passed away in 1987. From then on, she kept her life busy by doing for others, always setting a good example. She volunteered for over 30 years with the South Shore Reading Council. Jessie and her longtime friend and sister-in-law Clara spent many a year creating the Sunshine Gang. A wonderful group of seniors entertained with songs, skits and costumes at local retirement homes in St. Hubert, Quebec. Jessie often played Santa Claus at Christmas whenever she had the opportunity.

One of her favorite jobs was being a nanny to Jui & Pierre Cote’s three children. From a young age until college Christian, Richard & Carola kept Jessie busy and entertained. They embraced her as one of the family for many years and spent happy summers at their cottage in Magog.

Jessie spent the last few years at Chateau Cornwall where she made many happy memories and good friends. She kept busy crocheting afghans that she gave away too many friends & families. Her way of saying thank you and expressing her love. Jessie did puzzle and was famously known as “The puzzle lady”. To keep her mind sharp, she played Qwirkle, Scrabble & Skipbo games to name a few. Jessie had the patience to color for hours and completed many coloring books cover to cover. Jessie kept herself busy and away from the “idiot box” as she called the TV where she would inevitably fall asleep.

She loved arts & crafts, painting, drawing and sewing. Jessie was very talented in all her hobbies. Jessie inspired many and will leave a legacy as someone who lived her best life right to the end and never complained. No matter how Jessie felt she was always “fine” sick or not. She also had a great sense of humor.

Jessie will be dearly missed by her girls, Brenda (Al), Linda, grandchildren, Renee (Angelo), Megan (Patrick) and Megan’s Father Robert, family & friends.

May you rest in peace Mum knowing that you were the best Mum, Grandma, Granny, Wife, Sister, Aunt and friend that any of us could have hoped for. We will love you forever and miss you always!
