It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Jeffrey Ronald O’Neill, who passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, at the age of 28.
Jeffrey was the beloved son of Jamie and Linda O’Neill and the cherished baby of the family. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Mel, Robbie (Carina), Josh, and James (Marissa); his beloved nieces and nephews Riley, Kayden, Scarlett, Nevaeh, Easton, and Charlie; as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
Being the baby of the family, Jeffrey held a very special place in all of our hearts. He was funny, loving, and full of personality. He always believed he was the best-looking O’Neill, and he would probably be the first to remind everyone of it. Jeffrey had a heart of gold and would have done anything for the people he loved and cared about.
He had a particularly special relationship with his mom, and he always made sure she knew how much she meant to him. He would often surprise her with flowers—not just on Mother’s Day, but throughout the year, simply because he wanted to. That was Jeffrey: thoughtful, loving, and never needing a special occasion to show someone he cared.
Jeffrey had a deep love for sports. Whether he was watching a game on TV, attending one in person, or playing himself, sports were always something he enjoyed. He was a proud fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Cowboys.
He also loved spending time at the cottage, which was one of his favourite places to be. There was something special about being there, enjoying the quiet, being with family, and simply getting away from the busyness of everyday life. Jeffrey loved to fish when he was little, and in recent years he found his way back to fishing, bringing back a hobby he had loved as a child. Some of his happiest memories were made by the water, and the cottage will always hold a special place in our hearts as one of the places where Jeffrey felt most at home.
Jeffrey also had a special love for movies, and his favourite was The Shawshank Redemption, a movie he shared with his dad. He would often joke that he was Andy and his dad was Red—a little connection between them that was uniquely Jeffrey and will forever bring a smile to our faces.
At 18 years old, Jeffrey moved to Toronto, a city he quickly came to love. He embraced the excitement and energy of city life and made Toronto a big part of who he was. He was a long-time employee at Jack Astor’s, a job he took great pride in. He would proudly tell us that his location was the busiest Jack Astor’s in all of Canada.
Jeffrey was also incredibly creative and talented. He loved acting and dreamed of becoming an actor. He went to numerous auditions and even wrote his own scripts, always pursuing the things that inspired him.
Jeffrey had a style all his own and absolutely loved his clothes. He could walk into a room wearing what he was convinced was the most expensive outfit there—and he would make sure everyone knew it. He had a sense of style like no other and took great pride in expressing himself through fashion. It was no surprise that he had recently been talking about starting his own clothing brand and was so excited about the possibilities ahead. Jeffrey had so many dreams, ideas, and talents, and there was so much more he wanted to experience and accomplish.
There are simply no words that can truly express what Jeffrey meant to all of us. He was not only our son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend—he was a part of the heart of our family. His absence has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.
We loved Jeffrey deeply, and we will miss him more than words could ever express. His laugh, his sense of humour, his big personality, his incredible sense of style, and all the little things that made him Jeffrey will forever live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
At this time, funeral or celebration of life arrangements have not been made. As a family, we are taking this time to process the loss of Jeffrey and navigate our grief privately. His cremation has taken place, and when we feel ready, we will share plans to honour and celebrate his life.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of love, kindness, and support during this incredibly difficult time. A special thank you goes to Toronto Police Service – Division 14 for their compassion and kindness during an extremely difficult time, and to Basic Funerals in Barrie for everything they have done to help make this process a little easier for our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Jeffrey’s memory.
