Jeanette Margaret Klassen

November 14, 1943 — July 19, 2023

Toronto

On Wednesday, July 19th the night sky got a little brighter when Jeanette left our world to join the sparkling of stars in the heavens.
Jeanette fought hard these last few years, as we all know she would, but lost her battle to cancer.  Her passing was quiet and peaceful which was just the way Jeanette wanted it.

Jeanette was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in Roblin, Manitoba which is about 400km northwest of Winnipeg.  She was a city girl at heart so when she was old enough, and the opportunity arose, she escaped the farm to big city life in Winnipeg with her older sister Charlotte.   They moved on to Calgary where Jeanette attended Marvel Beauty School and her lifelong career of hairdressing was realized.   Eager to embark on her new career, Jeanette relocated to Banff where she worked as a hairdresser at the Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise.  While there she met a handsome waiter that captured her heart and she followed him to the Bahamas where she also worked as a hairdresser at luxury hotels.  When the fairy tale romance ended Jeanette arrived in Toronto where she planted roots and where she made countless friends and a very successful career in the hairdressing business.  She was passionate about her work with many of her clients becoming close personal friends.

Jeanette will always be remembered for her tenacity, energy and smart wit, but more importantly she will be remembered for her kindness, warmth and generosity.  She really was one in a million.

Jeanette was predeceased by her parents Richard and Margarete and her oldest sister Ida. She leaves behind her sisters Charlotte (Terry), Georgina, Wanda, Donna (Ed) and brother Wayne. as well as many other family and friends.

Jeanette's wish was to be cremated and not to have a formal service.  Her family will be honouring Jeanette in a private memorial being held in Calgary.  In Toronto, a Celebration of Jeanette's life is being planned  for a future date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society , the Sunnybrook Foundation , or a charity of your choice.

A heart of gold stopped beating
Working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
Leaves and flowers may wither
The golden sun may set
But the hearts that loved you dearly
Are the ones that won't forget.
