Jean-Claude “JC” Paquette, born and raised in Ottawa, passed away on September 13, 2026, at the age of 77, leaving behind a lifetime of great friendships, laughter, adventures and more than a few stories that probably became better with every telling.

He is also survived by his stepsons, Matthew McCarthy and Ryan McCarthy, and his much-loved grandchildren, Zoe McCarthy and Daron McCarthy, who knew him simply and affectionately as “Bapa.”

For 37 years, JC shared a special friendship with his neighbours Jean and Louise Lemay, who became far more than neighbours. Their daughters, Mireille, Genevieve and Marie-Claire, all held a special place in JC’s heart and were very much a part of his extended family.

JC spent 33 years serving his hometown with the Ottawa Fire Department, retiring as a Captain in 2007. During his career, he spent a number of years working with the OFD HAZMAT team. To those who worked alongside him, however, the rank and assignments only tell part of the story. He was remembered as a hell of a guy to have around, both on and off duty, with an infectious laugh, a mischievous smile and an ability to find humour in just about anything.

JC also knew how to enjoy the important things in life. A good shot of Grand Marnier was always appreciated. His homemade Caesar salad dressing was legendary, with lots of garlic of course, and his spaghetti sauce had plenty of loyal fans of its own.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, Spetember 27th at Happy Goat Coffee Co. located at 35 Laurel Street from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to honour his memory.
