James Lewis

December 10, 1938 — February 20, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our father, James (Jim) Lewis on February 20th in Vaughan, Ontario at the age of 85, surrounded by family that loved him, watching a beautiful sunset with his favourite song, Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love" playing.

A devoted son, husband, father, uncle and grandfather, he deeply loved and was so very beloved by his children David and Andrea; grandchildren Sara and Jakob; nieces Debra, Cortney, and Reagan; and Jim, the perennial animal lover, adored the menagerie of his kid's four-legged furbabies.

Doting husband to Marilyn, his example of care and loyalty is profound and inspiring to all who witnessed it.  Jim's kind soul and giving nature has affected both the people he loved and strangers he encountered.

Admired and respected by his friends, colleagues and clients, everyone who knew Jim, loved him. His warm smile and guttural laugh, always quick with a pun and (sometimes terrible) joke. Jim never missed an opportunity to share his beautiful singing voice with all. His passion for music was passed on to his kids who proudly acknowledge his musical accomplishments.  He began touring and recording in Canada and the U.S. in the 60's and while he pursued a career as a Chartered Accountant, he continued to record and front a Bar Mitzvah/Wedding band in the 70's and 80's (earning a Gold record for a Jim Reeves cover); more recently performing at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts and for the Seniors Jubilee at Roy Thomson Hall.  Jim's love of entertaining continued as a retirement community resident where last year he played one of the leads in a production of Mamma Mia and was currently rehearsing for a Broadway Revue, singing one of his favourites "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha just days before his hospitalization.

The loss of our sweet father has left a void that we will fill with the million hugs, laughs, kind deeds, songs, funny stories, "Jim jokes", impressions, important lessons, deep love, and warm memories that we hold so close. Dad, you were one of a kind and we were the luckiest to have you.

A Celebration of Life will be announced.
