Jamie Stewart, 64, of Ottawa and Yellowknife, died peacefully in Ottawa on April 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He grew up in Port Hope, Ontario, in Granny’s loving home on King Street. He attended Trent University before joining the Canadian Armed Forces. He was dedicated to his family and his country.
Jamie was a devoted and loving father to Alix and Devon. To say he was supportive would be an understatement. No matter where he lived or worked, he ensured that his daughters always had a place to call home, and a place to belong. He also loved his grandchildren more than words can describe. They could have asked him for the moon, and they would have gotten it.
Jamie’s best friend of 17 years and spouse, Tammy, will dearly miss him and the life they planned together. He accepted her children and grandchildren as if they were his own.
Jamie served as a Naval Warfare Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, a role that brought him both happiness and pride. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he held regular “meetings” in Grafton, Barrhaven, and Yellowknife. He left a lasting impact on his colleagues and fellow Legion members.
Jamie is predeceased by his father, Don; his aunts, Rita and Marg; and his uncle, Albert. He is survived by his spouse, Tammy; his children, Alix (Jared) and Devon (Tanner); his grandchildren, Cali, Skyla, James, Britton, and Aven; his brother, Mark (Judy); and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews.
Jamie’s family thanks him for his service. We wish him fair winds and calm seas.
A celebration of life will follow at a later date. Details will be shared by the family when they are finalized. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Legion National Foundation.
