Surrounded in love, James Henry Hicks passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024, at the age of 62. James is survived by beloved life partner and soul mate of Alain Laberge, brother Alan Hicks, sisters, Margy Wilson (nee Hicks) (Terry Wilson), Susan Hicks (late Jerry Plante) and cherished brother-in-law of the late Martial Laberge (Debbie Laberge nee Szybko), Cécile Laberge (Claude Lanteigne), Patrice Laberge and loving dad to fur baby Leo. 

Predeceased by his parents Robert Hicks and Clarine Hicks (nee Scriver), siblings Nancy Borgal (nee Hicks), Donna Yuile (nee Hicks), Bobby Hicks and Sharon Parrott (nee Hicks). Jamie will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and great-nephews and nieces. 

A treasured friend, he will be fondly remembered by many. Jamie was born on September 21, 1961, in Galt Ontario (Cambridge). 

Jamie was well-known and loved by his recovery community of which he was a dedicated and involved member for 23 years. He was an intelligent, compassionate, and caring gentle giant. He advocated tirelessly for social justice and equality for all. 

While diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Jamie’s spirit continued to shine through. He faced his diagnosis with courage and grace and continued to enjoy times with friends and family until his very last breath. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Carlingview Manor, Ottawa for the care and compassion given to Jamie. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Parish Hall, St. John Church, 275 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario. The family will receive condolences at 12 p.m. with the celebration of life at 1 p.m.

Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.
