Obituary

We are heartbroken to share that everyone’s favourite person, James William Galt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with his wife, Billie Jo Galt, by his side and his daughter, Emma Jane Galt, close by. Jamie spent his final day with family and close loved ones, sharing a beautiful day with the people who meant the most to him, filled with love and laughter.

Jamie’s love of music, quick sense of humour, kindness and ability to make friends and family feel calm and comforted shined through these past years, and especially during the many visits he shared with them this past summer. Even as he faced colon cancer, Jamie continued to cherish the time he had with the people he loved most, remaining grateful for every moment, every visit, and every memory made along the way. Our family will always be grateful to the healthcare workers who cared for Jamie throughout his journey with such compassion, kindness, and dignity, and who helped support him and our family through such a difficult time.

He leaves behind his loving parents, Stephen and Elaine Galt, who will forever carry the memories of raising Jamie and his siblings, and the countless happy years they shared as a family, filled with laughter, love, adventures at the beach, and moments they will treasure forever. They had the privilege of watching Jamie grow, discover his own passions, build a life he loved, and become the person so many people held dear, but no matter how many years passed or how much life changed, in their hearts, Jamie will always be their baby boy.

Jamie will be deeply missed by his sister Kelly Gougeon and brother-in-law Tony Gougeon, his sister Kathryn Galt, his brother Scott Galt and sister-in-law Elizabeth Galt. Jamie, his sisters and brother shared so many special childhood memories of their home and days at the beach, creating a bond and a lifetime of stories that will always belong to them. Jamie was so proud of each of them, and they will always carry a piece of him with them wherever life takes them.

He was also loved dearly by his father-in-law, Bill Waters, who always loved Jamie as his own son. Jamie will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Jami Bugg and brother-in-law Chris Topping, and his sister-in-law Geri Garraway and brother-in-law Richard Garraway, who will always remember his laughter and the joy he brought to countless family dinners and gatherings.

Jamie will be missed by all of his nieces, nephews, their partners, and great-nieces, whom he loved dearly. One of his greatest pleasures was watching them grow up, seeing the people they became, and being part of their lives along the way.

Jamie’s greatest loves were his wife, Billie Jo, and his daughter, Emma. For 25 years, Jamie and Billie Jo walked through life side by side, building a family and creating a life that was uniquely theirs. What they built together will always hold a special place in Billie Jo’s heart, and the love, memories, and life they created together will forever be a part of her life. Jamie lived for his daughter, Emma, who was the most important person in his world. He was endlessly proud of her and loved being her dad. His greatest wish was to see Emma happy, safe and surrounded by love. The love he had for her will continue to live on in everything she does, and Emma will always carry with her the knowledge that she was, and always will be the most precious part of her dad’s life.

Jamie was the heart of his family and friends, and while his absence will be felt every day, his family and friends will always hold close the laughter, love, traditions, and special moments that made their time together so meaningful.

Until we meet again, Jamie. We love you.
