With great sadness, we announce the passing of Ira McLaughlin, age 82, peacefully on Saturday October 17, 2026.
Ira was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorraine (O’Connor), his parents, Walter and Aileen McLaughlin of Venosta, Quebec and by his siblings, Peter and Mavis. Ira will be deeply missed by his children, Leanne and Steve. He was the proud grandfather of Shannon McNally (Jeff), Lauren and Evan Reid and his great-grandchildren, Owen and Lucy. Ira is survived by siblings Judy Sullivan (Billy), Barbara Mahoney (Elvyn), David (Susan), and Allen and his in-laws Patrick Henry, Betty McLaughlin, Colleen McLaughlin (the late Dwight), Lyla Carroll (Francis), Darlene O’Connor (Larry), Brenda Lee Kelly (Barry) and by many nieces and nephews.
Ira’s warm personality and relaxed manner allowed him to easily make friends of which he had many. He had a passion for sports, both as a competitor and spectator. For Ira, peace of mind smelled like freshly cut grass and sounded like a 7 iron meeting the tee.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Venosta Quebec on Saturday November 7, 2026 at 11:00 am. Friends may offer condolences in the church after 9:30 am. Following the service (and burial), please join us at the Venosta Center (School) for refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either Hospice Care Ottawa or the Venosta Recreational Society would be appreciated.
