Oscar Norman Manz, age 91 of Toronto, Ontario, Canada died on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
He was born on April 16, 1934, in Stettler, Alberta, Canada to the late Reverend Siegmund and Valborg Manz. Howard earned his B.A. at McGill University and further degrees in Theology and Philosophy at the University of Chicago. He spent decades living in Italy teaching English at a school in the northern Italian town of Bergamo. He will be remembered for his love of literature, art, history, travel, and his proficiency in several foreign languages.
Howard is survived by his nieces; Rachael (Jim) Ferguson, Tamara (Kent) Weaver and Candace Sharp Mitchem; and his nephews; Bradley (Lorraine) Manz, Jeffrey (Elena) Manz, Timothy Manz, Matthew (Anne) Manz and Paul Sharp. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Oscar Manz, and his sister Ruth Sharp.
His ashes will be laid to rest next to his sister Ruth in the East Liberty, Ohio cemetery.
