It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother Helga Elisabeth Rudolph at Gilmore Lodge Fort Erie at age 87.
Deepest sympathies are extended to her daughter Patricia Horner (Carl), stepson Brian Rudolph (Jennifer) and stepdaughter Bridgitte Rudolph (Ron). Loving Oma to Bailey Rudolph and Justin Moase. Helga is survived by her brother Wilfred Strasdat (Tanja) in Germany. She is pre-deceased by her husband Olaf who passed earlier this year.
Helga was born in Essen Germany in 1938 to Elisabeth Maria Strasdat and Willy Hugo Strasdat. In her younger years she volunteered as a candy striper, and then studied to receive a certificate for retail management. She arrived in Canada September 1958. She learned to speak English and became a Canadian citizen in 1968.
Helga had a very successful career at Eatons for over 30 years. Creative and meticulous to detail, she managed the China department and was promoted to the Cosmetic department.
Helga loved to entertain with her cooking and baking talents whether it be for family gatherings or for work colleagues. She was all about supporting family and friends with open arms.
Helga retired in 1994 and together with Olaf enjoyed being very involved with Club Loreley. They sang together in the choir and shared their passions helping with many social events.
Helga will always be remembered for her ongoing dedication to family and friends, her love of wildlife and pets, but most of all she will be remembered for her sense of feisty outspoken humour.
According to her wishes, funeral services will not be held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Red Cross, or, The Salvation Army, two charities she supported.
We will miss you immensely… until we meet again… I love you more <3
Parts of a poem she kept found day after her passing:
“Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Why should I be out of mind if I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval somewhere very near. Just around the corner.”
