Helga (Rothweiler) Lavigne

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing in Ottawa of Helga (Rothweiler) Lavigne on November 2, 2025, in her 91st year. Born in Germany in 1935, Helga immigrated to Canada in 1953 and soon met the man who would be her husband, the late François Lavigne, with whom she had two children, Jocelyne (Kris) and François (Daniela). Helga had an illustrious 25-year career in the federal public service. After her retirement in 1994, Helga was able to devote herself entirely to her passion: cohabitating with, breeding and showing Irish Wolfhounds. Helga made many friends within the tight-knit circle of Irish Wolfhound breeders and occupied various roles within the Irish Wolfhound Club of Canada. In addition to being missed by her children and their respective spouses, Helga will be missed by her grand-daughters, Alexandra and Aryane (Colin), her grand-sons Gabriel, Simon and Jacob, and her great-grand-daughters Mya, Mahélie, Élisa-Fay and Braia. No service is being held.

C’est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès, le 2 novembre 2025, à Ottawa, de Madame Helga (née Rothweiler) Lavigne, à l’âge de 90 ans. Née en Allemagne en 1935, Helga a immigré au Canada en 1953 et a rapidement rencontré l’homme qui allait devenir son époux, feu François Lavigne, avec qui elle a eu deux enfants, Jocelyne (Kris) et François (Daniela). Helga a mené une brillante carrière de 25 ans au sein de la fonction publique fédérale. Après sa retraite en 1994, elle a pu se consacrer pleinement à sa passion : l’élevage et la présentation de lévriers irlandais. Helga s’est fait de nombreux amis au sein du cercle très soudé des éleveurs de lévriers irlandais et elle a occupé diverses fonctions au sein du Club canadien du lévrier irlandais. Helga manquera beaucoup à ses enfants et à leurs conjoints respectifs, ainsi qu'à ses petites-filles, Alexandra et Aryane (Colin), à ses petits-fils, Gabriel, Simon et Jacob, et à ses arrière-petites-filles, Mya, Mahélie, Élisa-Fay et Braia. Aucune cérémonie n'aura lieu.
