Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Helga Ingrid Dajerling (nee Möbius) have to announce that our loving mother and Oma passed away in her 89th year, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. She lovingly leaves behind her favourite son, Henry (Heather), her favourite daughter, Haidee (Michael), and her favourite grandchildren, Meaghan (Emmanuel), Evelyn, Dana (Marino), James, Kaitlyn (Dylan), Jason, as well as her step-granddaughter, Michaela (Dan) and step-greatgrandchildren, Waylon and Maccoy, and her niece, Ramona (Lars).

Mom experienced so much in her lifetime. Born in Berlin just 2 years before the second world war began, she grew up in a very loving family during a very difficult era. She is predeceased by her mother, Hedwig Möbius (nee Lehmann), her father, Ernst Möbius, and her sister Eveline Dudek in Berlin.

Mom was only 20 years old when she immigrated to Montreal in 1957 to marry our father, Hans Dajerling, to raise a family, and to create the legacy she leaves behind today. A floral designer by trade in Berlin, mom returned to her trade while living in N.Y. and continued to design upon moving to Ottawa, including providing the most beautiful floral bouquets and table arrangements at both her son’s and daughter’s weddings.

Mom loved nature. She especially enjoyed our country house at Beaulac where you would find her either walking in the woods, swimming in the lake, picking wild raspberries, or sitting around a campfire with family and friends. Mom was an avid reader, but when it came to history, she was a fountain of knowledge and had many amazing stories to share. She enjoyed traveling and her crossword puzzles but most of all, she enjoyed being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Our Mom and Oma will be lovingly cherished and remembered forever.

Special thanks to the Palliative Team and Nurses at the Ottawa Civic Hospital who provided care to our mom in her final days.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a future date.
