Heleodore "Sonny" Laurent Rivard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Heleodore "Sonny" Laurent Rivard, who died peacefully in Ottawa, Ontario, on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the age of 76, after a long-term illness.

Sonny was the beloved son of the late Lucien and Alvina Rivard. He was the loving brother of Jacqueline Couillard and Robert Rivard. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Lucie (née Dumont) Rivard; his only son, Darcy Rivard, and daughter-in-law, Melissa Rivard. He was a cherished grandfather to Colton and Addilyn. Sonny will also be deeply missed by his nieces, Deanna and Nicole, and his nephews, John and Brent.

Born in Jackman, Maine, Sonny was a proud graduate of Lewiston High School in 1966. A dedicated and proud US Army Veteran, he served his country with honor. Beyond his service, Sonny was known for his sharp mind and his lifelong passion for collecting, with particular interests in coin collecting and artistic wooden duck sculptures; Hobbies he pursued with enthusiasm and dedication. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering love for his family, and his kind spirit.

A Celebration of Sonny's life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hope Cemetery, 4660 Bank St, Gloucester, ON K1T 0Y7, with interment to follow at the same location. Following the chapel service, all are invited to gather at the home of Darcy and Melissa Rivard to continue the celebration of Sonny's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Perley Health Foundation in Sonny's memory.
