Heidi Schmidt

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Heidi Schmidt on April 16th, 2026. She was at home, where she wanted to be, surrounded by love. She was taken from us far too early after a two year struggle with brain cancer.

Heidi was born in Fort Macleod Alberta on April 24, 1972 to parents Greg and Shirley of Lethbridge. She graduated high school in Ottawa, followed by degrees in music at the University of Lethbridge and then education at the University of Ottawa. She believed in joy, and found it in all the quiet moments of her daily life. Her ashes will be scattered on Main Duck Island, a place dear to her heart.

Heidi leaves behind daughter Kira; partner Steve and his sons Ian and Alec; parents Greg and Shirley; sister Wendy and her sons Dustin, Christopher, Cody, and Austin; sister Kristy and her husband Fred and their children Addison and Tyler; brother Clayton (in South Korea); aunts and uncles Jim and Darlene, Deanna and Rod, and Tom and Kathy; and many more extended family and cherished friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31st, between 1:30pm and 5:00pm, at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 593 in Bells Corners, at 4026 Old Richmond Road. There will be an open mic for anyone wishing to share a few words, music, songs, poems, or stories.
