It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Hazel Roberta Wadden. Hazel passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on October 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with dementia and cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion.

Hazel was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Clyde Wadden, as well as her parents, Helen Wagner (née Thompson) and Gordon Wagner.

Born on March 25, 1938, Hazel grew up in Cape Breton and married her childhood sweetheart, Clyde, on May 9, 1959. Early in her career, she worked as an X-ray technician, a profession that reflected her caring nature and desire to help others. After starting a family, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her children and creating a warm and welcoming home in Ottawa. Family was at the centre of Hazel's life, and she found her greatest joy in the time spent with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her children, Roberta (Gary), Karen, David, and Andrew (Terri); her grandchildren, Brandon (Rebecca), Matthew (Kristal), Lindsay (Joe), Amy (Cody), Bailey, and Jakob; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Stella, Wren, Sienna, James, Nora, and Joan. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Chase (née Wagner), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brookside Senior Living, Extendicare Starwood, and the Queensway Carleton Hospital, especially the palliative care team, for the compassion, dignity, and exceptional care they provided during Hazel's final days.

In keeping with her wishes, Hazel will be cremated, and her ashes will be returned to Cape Breton, a place that always remained close to her heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. John's Anglican Church, 325 Sandhill Road, Kanata, Ontario, on Friday November 6th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

"A mother's love remains in the hearts of her family forever.”
