Obituary

Greta Cecelia Seifert, also affectionately known as “Sissy” was born on August 7, 1944 in Redman’s Village, St. Thomas, Barbados to Violet and Frederick Smith. She was the middle child in a family of 9 siblings and is predeceased by her brothers Frank, Luther, Frederick Jr, and Dennis and her sisters, Wilma, Emgar and Grethel. She is survived by her brother Delisle. She was the mother of 4 children, Wayne, who passed away in 2000, Antoinette, Jason and Alicia. Greta was the loving grandmother of Berlayne, Anthony, Shanice, Anderson, Olivia, Jordan, Tyson and Wesley. And great grandmother to Raina. Mother-in-law to Sharon and Tina. A beloved aunt and cousin to many more.

Professionally, she worked at the Mississauga Hospital for over 30 years prior to her retirement in 2002. She was an active member of Cooksville United Church for over 50 years having served on several committees, as part of the United Church Women, and singing in the Cooksville Senior Choir until just last year.

Greta valued family and community above all else and had that special something that made everyone she met feel loved. There are many more who count her as “mom”, “auntie” or “GranGran”.

We are so grateful to the Coronary Care Unit of the Trillium Health Centre for their care of her during her recent short stay. She has been well cared for by her doctors over the last several years and while we will miss her, we know that she lived a life that left a lasting impact. Greta died peacefully on March 1, 2026 surrounded by her children and grandchildren, exactly the way she would have wanted to go.

The outpouring of love and support from all who knew her is a testament to extent of her loving presence. In the midst of overwhelming grief, the family is comforted by knowing that she has meant so much to so many.

Her celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00am at Cooksville United Church, 2500 Mimosa Row, Mississauga.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in her name to her beloved Cooksville United Church. Call (905) 277-2338 to arrange.
