Gilbert Courchaine, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on September 22, 1955, Gilbert lived a life characterized by love, devotion, and a passion for the joys of family and the great outdoors.

Pre-deceased by his parents Irene and Jacques Courchaine, and sisters Jackie (late Glen Holland),Rolande (Vic Fournel),Jaelle (late Michel Goulet), and Evelyne Guillemette.

He is survived by beloved wife of 51 years Huguette, his two sons, Rob and his spouse Dalérie, and Dave alongside his spouse Jodi. Gilbert took immense pride in his role as a grandfather, relishing every moment spent with his cherished grandchildren: Theo, Gabrièle, Keira, and Noah. His family was his pride and joy, and he often referred to them as his greatest achievement.

Gilbert shared a close bond with his brothers, Ernie (Gisele) Kapuskasing, Lew (the late Debbie) Peterborough, Roger (Grace) Kapuskasing, Pierre (Francine) Kapuskasing, and Michel Kapuskasing. He will also be remembered fondly by his sister, Jeannine Lozier (the late Hubert) from Kapuskasing. In addition, he is mourned by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Angie (JC Caron) Kapuskasing, André (Louisette) Kapuskasing, Georgette (the late Norm Gravel) Kapuskasing, and Sylvie (Denis Roussel) Kapuskasing, as well as many nieces and nephews who were touched by his kindness.

Gilbert had a zest for life that was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He was an avid fan of both the Canadiens de Montréal and the Toronto Blue Jays, whom he supported with fervor. His love for the outdoors drew him into hunting and fishing, activities that brought him great pleasure and tranquility. On the golf course, he found both challenge and camaraderie, enjoying the sport with friends and family alike.

A true craftsman at heart, Gilbert expressed his affection through the creation of wooden projects, including delightful toys for his grandchildren and beautifully crafted furniture. His handiwork was a reflection of his care; each piece embodied the love he infused into every project.

In keeping with Gilbert's wishes, there will be no funeral service. His memory, however, will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Gilbert leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire his family and friends in the years to come.
