Gerlinde (Linda) Mayer

Gerlinde Mayer, known to many as Linda Mayer, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, June 28, 2024. Loved Mom and Oma to Richard and Dominique, Katrine and Chantal, Sebastian and Sara, and Stefanie. Born in Klagenfurt, Austria on March 1, 1930, she journeyed with her husband Karl to Vienna, the Netherlands, and USA before landing in Ottawa. She will be missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. 

Gerlinde was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and wife and homemaker who valued family above all. She loved classical music and opera: the Vienna Opera was a favourite place in their time in Vienna; as was the Met while living in New York and later weekly on the radio as well as live streams. Travel was another passion and she enjoyed the history, music and nature. Lakes and oceans were always highlights, as she grew up on the water. And when travel was no longer practical, she enjoyed travel videos. Food, cooking, and nurturing were priorities: No one could leave without eating or at least taking something.

She was 94 and had a very good life; 71 of those years spent with her loving husband. When you see a pelican flying, think of our Mom and Oma, Gerlinde - may she rest in peace.
