Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Fruehwirth on January 15, 2026, at Humber Meadows Long Term Care Home. He was 74 years old. After a long and hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease, Gerald passed peacefully. He will forever live on in our memories.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Gerald immigrated to Canada as a young child with his mother, Ingaborg (“Inge”). Gerald lived with colour and curiosity. He loved jazz, art and culture, good food, and lively conversation. A natural storyteller with a quick sense of humour, he had a special way of making ordinary moments feel memorable.

Gerald will also be remembered for the deep bond he shared with his beloved Toy Fox Terrier, Tinkle. Their companionship reflected Gerald’s gentle spirit and his ability to find happiness in the small, meaningful moments.

Gerald leaves behind his partner, Micheline; her daughters, Filicia and Julie; and her son, Junior (Myriam). He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Kalvyn, Syphora, Layvie, and Jonah; his brother, Alex (15 years younger); his sister-in-law, Annette; his nieces, Jennifer and Chloe; and his stepfather, Kurt, and Kurt’s wife, Hedy.

He will be deeply missed by countless friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. Though he is gone, his spirit lives on in the music he loved, the meals shared, and the memories that will forever bring smiles through tears.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Gerald’s honour. Date (Spring 2026) and location: to be announced.

Details will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.

in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gerald's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation.
