Obituary

It is with deep sadness, that the family of Georges Ferris wish to announce his peaceful passing on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Hospice Simcoe at the age of 96.

Georges was born in Quebec City, beloved husband of Helga Ferris, dear father of Micheline Crocker (Gary) Gary Ferris (Bev), Richard Ferris (Patrcia) and Les Ferris (Marianne predeceased). Brother of Minerve Simard (predeceased), Micheline Beaulieu and Maxine Nadeau (predeceased) of Quebec City. Georges will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and his many friends.

Georges served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 46 years progressing from the rank of Private to Major. During WWII he joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (reserves) in early April 1945. In 1948 he transferred to the Regular Force And joined the Royal 22e Regiment in Quebec City. He served in numerous locations and positions with loyalty and distinction from Rivers Manitoba with the SAS, Japan, Korea, Cyprus and Germany twice. His last posting was to the Canadian Forces Leadership Academy at Camp Borden where he retired from the Regular Forces and joined the Cadet Organization as a Cadet Instructor List Officer until 1991.

In Georges retirement years Georges and Helga spent many years travelling the USA in their truck/trailer combination (Oscar and Felix) playing golf and soaking up the sun and enjoying life. Georges loved to play music and was a member of several bands including The Barrie Concert Band, the Base Borden Military Band as well as the Skyliners and was instrumental in starting the Celebration of the Veterans Musical held every September.

Georges was actively involved in numerous Military Associations including the ANAF, the Veterans Club of Barrie the Canadian Airbore Forces Association and the Peacekeepers Association. In keeping with Georges Wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6 at 2:00 pm at the Barrie Legion Branch 147, 410 St Vicent Street, Barrie On.
