George Plaitis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved George Plaitis, who left us peacefully at the age of 82 on May 3rd 2025. Born in Crete, Greece, George immigrated to Canada in the early 1970s, bringing with him a rich cultural heritage and a deep rooted love for his Cretan homeland.

George settled in Montreal, where he quickly became a well-known figure in the local Cretan community.

After many successful years in Montreal, George made the bold decision to move to Toronto, where he joined his brother Nick and Koumbaro George Larentzakis in opening the Red Char Grill.

George was devoted to his large, tight/knit family and community and a cherished uncle, friend, and a mentor to many. He is remembered for his generous heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering support of his family and friends. He took immense pride in sharing his Greek heritage, and participating in family gatherings.

George is survived by many nieces, nephews, sister in laws, brother in law and countless Godchildren, family and friends who were touched by his kindness.

George Plaitis will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of love, laughter, generosity, and kindness. May his memory be eternal.
