Genevieve (Genny) Lessard (nee Roach), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in Ottawa on October 9, 2025. Born on May 31, 1931, in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, Genny was one of seven children brought into this world by Arsene and Domitilde Roach. Her legacy continues through her sister, Margaret, who survives her at the remarkable age of 100.
Genny's life was marked by love, kindness, and an unwavering support for those in need. She was previously married to the late Ralph Lessard and is survived by her devoted children: Raymond (Kathy), Michael (Anne), and Cathy (Kevin). The bonds of family were extremely important to Genny, and she takes great pride in her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her spirit and warmth.
A nurturing soul, Genny was known for her deep empathy, always rooting for the underdog. This compassion led her to adopt two of her children, showcasing her selflessness and commitment to providing a loving home.
Genny cherished the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing during her younger years. Her home was a welcoming haven, especially remembered for the annual Christmas Eve soirée that delighted many of her children's friends. Guests were treated to her renowned homemade tourtière, a tradition that brought warmth and joy to all who gathered.
Her grandchildren recall precious moments spent with her in the kitchen, learning to knit and bake delicious treats, making cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Among the fondest is the annual excitement of receiving her Christmas packages, which consistently included her world-class apple pies.
In addition to her family life, Genny had a passion for music that enriched her community as she spent many years teaching piano. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her music students, fostering a love for music that she imparted to countless young hearts.
Genny was fiercely independent, managing to live on her own until her final months. Her spirit and tenacity will be remembered by all who knew her.
