We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Garry Stanley Sawyer, aged 83, on March 1, 2026, after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Garry is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Sharon, children Daniel (Suzanne) and Catherine (Andrew), and his grandchildren Aaron, Naomi, Caleb, Esther and Bethany. He is also survived by his siblings Don (Geri), Doug (Ruth), Margaret, Helen, Grace and Brian (Sharon); brother-in-law Roy (Teresa) and sister-in-law Cathy (Bruce) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ebenezer and Myrtle Sawyer and brothers-in-law Dave, Dan, Marvin and Ross.
Garry was a fifth generation farmer in the Innisfil community, actively farming on his property for over 50 years, while assisting with his father’s century old farm and great-grandfather’s original 150+ year old farm. In his “retirement” enjoyed nothing more than puttering around in his shop and property and giving the grandchildren tractor rides. Garry was a faithful member of New Life Fellowship Baptist church, serving the church community in his quiet way. Hallmarks of Garry’s faith included his meek and modest nature, always connecting with the quietest and unrecognized. With his love of livestock farming in cattle and sheep, he and his family recognized first-hand the parallels to the example of the Good Shepherd in Psalm 23. We trust that he is safe in the arms of Jesus now.
The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care from his family physician, Dr. David Evans, and the staff at Simcoe Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at New Life Fellowship Baptist Church on Saturday, March 7 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Garry to Simcoe Hospice (https://hospicesimcoe.ca/), New Life Fellowship Baptist Church (https://www.newlifebaptistchurch.ca/) or the Innisfil Food Bank (https://www.innisfilfoodbank.com/) are appreciated.
