Frances Doreen FitzGerald

Frances Doreen FitzGerald, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 25, 2025, at the age of 91. 

Born on May 1, 1934, Frances spent most of her life in Ottawa, where she built a loving home and dedicated herself to her family, her work, and her faith. 

Frances was the loving mother of Steven Mellor (predeceased in 1981), Tom Mellor (Cathy), and Terry Mellor (Vickie). She was the proud grandmother of Sean, Katie, Liam, and Brady, and the delighted great-grandmother of Ensley. She was predeceased by her beloved older brothers Tom and Owen and held them forever close in her heart. 

Frances was very proud of her career in Human Resources with Employment and Immigration, where she dedicated many years of service. She also gave generously of her time as a volunteer with the Shepherds of Good Hope, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others. 

Deeply rooted in her Irish heritage and her Catholic faith, Frances found strength, joy, and meaning throughout her life. She shared an especially close bond with her cousin, Joan Kealey, and her lifelong friend, Patricia Meehan, whose love and friendship enriched her journey. 

Frances will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones. Her legacy of love and faith lives on in all who were blessed to know her. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 100 Young Street, Ottawa.
