Fern Cecilia Martin

It is with deep sadness we announce that Fern Cecilia Martin, aged 67, passed away suddenly on August 9th, 2025. Fern’s unexpected passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her presence will be greatly missed.

 Fern was born in Belleville, Ontario on November 25th, 1957 to parents Cecil and Violet Vezina. She was the seventh of nine children from two marriages and grew up in Tweed, Ontario. At age 18, she met her future husband Karl and the couple traveled west to British Columbia living several years before returning to Ontario a year before their son Michael was born. Their journey together lasted until her passing, despite living apart due to required medical care. 

Fern will be remembered for her love for life, a fiery spirit and being a dedicated loving wife and mother who spent many years taking care of her husband and son. Fern will be sadly missed by all of us who knew and loved her, and especially the staff of OCL (Ottawa Carleton Lifeskills), who provided full time care, in recent years. 

Fern is survived by her beloved husband Karl, her cherished son Michael, and daughter-in-law Shannon. She also leaves behind her brothers: Robert Hood (with wife Carol, Brighton, ON), Harry Hood (with wife Linda, Trenton, ON), and Pat Vezina (with partner Amanda, Actinolite, ON). Her younger brother John Vezina predeceased her. Among her sisters, Barbara O'Leary (Scarborough, ON) survives her, while Della Linke, Beatrice Waite, and Rose Champion have also passed. Also surviving are Fern's brother and sister in-laws, James and Pamela Martin (London ON).
