Fanny (Fani) Kovacs aged 94, passed away peacefully in Ottawa, Ontario, at Bruyère St. Vincent Hospital.
Fanny was born in Oschima (Trigonon), Northern Greece in the Western Macedonian region. In 1955, she made a new beginning in Toronto, where she married late Zoltan Kovacs and together raised their family.
Fanny’s love will live on in the hearts of her children—Leslie (Sylvia), John, and Julie (Jim)—and her treasured grandchildren, Jordan, Daniel, Graham, and Melina. A loving Teta to Louis, Emmanuel, James, Nicholas, Cathy, and Dorothy.
She was a beloved sister to Sophie Goboly, Nick Nikolaou, Bill Mich resting in heavenly peace together and in the arms of angels watching over us all.
Fanny was a devoted and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother. Known for her warm nature, humour and her expressions of love to her family through cooking and baking with Hungarian and Macedonian traditions. Always with a strong work ethic during her years as a waitress but also with her gardening, food preserving and taking great pride in making a home of comforting love with scents of food in the air when you walked through the door. In the later years she volunteered knitting Izzy dolls providing comfort to children facing poverty, disease (particularly HIV/AIDS orphans), or trauma, especially in regions like Malawi, South Africa, and Uganda.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Unitarian House, who made her final home one of comfort, friendship and joy, and to the compassionate team at Bruyère St. Vincent Hospital for the exceptional care she received in her final days.
A graveside service and interment of ashes will be held May 23, 2026, at Beechwood Cemetery in Vaughan. A Celebration of Life to follow, where family and friends will gather to honour and remember her life.
Fanny’s life was one of quiet strength, enduring love, and deep devotion to family. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
