Obituary

In her 87th year, Emilie died peacefully in her sleep on June 12th, 2026. Emilie is survived by her sisters Carmen and Yvette, son Christopher, daughter Nathalie, son-in-law Jeffrey, granddaughter Evangeline (Evie) and former husband Horst Lummert.

Emilie was born into a French Catholic community in Englehart, Ontario. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Toronto and worked as a registered nurse in several different settings, including in a convent for retired women religious in the United States.

Emilie met her now former husband Horst Lummert in Toronto and then moved to Washington DC. Emilie lived in several states before returning to Ottawa which she called home for her last decades.

Emilie was a true romantic and had many passions, including enthusiasm for her French heritage and French royal history. And Emilie was always open to educating anyone about these topics! As a devoted Catholic, she cared for and shared her faith and devotion with family and friends. Emilie loved to feed the birds and regularly looked out for the homeless. Emilie was always up for a fun time with family and friends, whether that was dancing, listening to Andre Bocelli’s music, playing bingo and scrabble, or going to the casino.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing Emilie is in the arms of Jesus and that she is reunited with her brothers and sisters (Albert, Bernadette, Cecile, Julie, Lillian, Adeline, Rolland, Wilfred and Florence) and her parents Ernestine and Armand.

Our family is filled with gratitude for the staff at St. Vincent’s hospital who care for Emilie in her last weeks of advanced dementia. They showed mom gentle loving care.
