Elva Jane Valcamp has completed her earthly journey on July 21st and has left us to mourn her passing. She was born Elva Jane Fawcett on Mar 29th 1938 in Harewood New Brunswick. Left behind are Ken, her husband of 46 years, Stephen Eyre (Hollee), Michael Eyre, John Eyre (Barb) & Melissa Stone (John). Grandchildren and great grandchildren, Matt, Shenecee Michaela, Kate, Cody, Stevie Jane, Rebecca, Jake, Grayson, Cole, and Zachary. She was the 4th in a family of 8, and has 2 surviving siblings Joyce, and Calvin (Sue).

In her early years, Elva moved around the country, making friends from coast to coast, before finally putting down roots on a small country property in North Gower Ontario. She had a 14 year career with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources which meshed well with her love of the outdoors and a 12 year career with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, which also appealed to her fondness for meeting and engaging with new people.

She took up hiking and backpacking as recreation, covering many miles in such places as Algonquin Park, Bruce trail Tobermory, and trails in the mountains of Colorado, and New Mexico. When the packs got too heavy she eventually graduated to Canoeing/camping, such waters as Moira river, Salmon river, Madawaska river Dumoine River, Lake superior (not too far from shore please) North Thompson river, Bowron Lakes, and many more.

When not canoeing or hiking she loved to cook. Taking various cooking courses accumulating a library of regional and country cooking recipes. Although if the truth were told, she did not need a cookbook, she had an uncanny ability to create delicious dishes from whatever was available. She reveled in planning and hosting many family dinners for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter etc, Her Childhood years in the bush in New Brunswick served her well in bringing wild plants, berries to embellish her dinner creations.

Family and extended family were always foremost in her thoughts, And as time marched on she became more and more active and involved in her Church family, and especially enjoyed cooking and helping with the many church luncheons. It was a particularly joyful day when she came home with an empty crockpot. Her faith spread to all facets of her life, enriching many around her.

And a sincere thank you to her niece Wendy Bingham, who served as an ad hoc medical interpreter and mentor.

The staff on the poppy wing at Southbridge nursing home are unsung heroes who took such good care of Elva for the last 4 ½ years.

A celebration of life/funeral service will be held Aug 7th at 1:00pm at the Kemptville Pentecostal Church 1964 county road 43, Kemptville ON.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honour to the Alzheimer’s society would be gratefully appreciated.
