The Journey of Elizabeth Sybil Turnbull (Steele)
Liz’s journey began on December 11, 1959, no doubt in the afternoon as mornings were just not her thing. Liz was soon joined by two sisters, Katherine and Allison, with a wonderful mix of love and frustration. True sisters.
In 1984 Liz said “yes” to her husband, David, again, with an abundance of love and frustration. Their journey together included lots of travel, adventures, and gatherings with good friends. But something was needed. Something was missing. So, in 2010 they adopted their daughter Grace and their life changed completely. Liz found new strength and purpose as a mom.
Liz’s life journey had two consistent passions; art and horses (western style as she loved her inner cowgirl). She was wonderfully talented in both her passions leading to many horse reigning awards and walls full of paintings and sculptures. These passions brought her so many new and cherished friends. Liz’s journey did have a few bumps - she had a rodeo accident that landed her in the ICU for 8 days. But her fighting spirit and determination had her back on the horse in no time.
In 2024 Liz’s journey was abruptly altered with a cancer diagnosis. Her bright spirit and passion for life shone through her challenge and she continued to ride and paint. She gained wonderful peace and happiness from both and from her many friends sharing her passion. In fact, she had her first art show on February 15, 2026 which was beautifully recorded…

When Liz was growing up she adored Piglet from Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne. Liz wants to share her favourite quote:
"If ever there is a tomorrow we're not together...there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart...I'll always be with you."
Liz’s many journeys ended February 25, 2026.
She leaves behind so many extraordinary legacies. Her beautiful artwork, the love she has for her family and friends, and a treasure trove of wonderful memories. Her journey is now our inspiration. As Liz said in her Art Show, Just Paint. For you, Just ? [you fill in your passion!]
Forever in our hearts.
"If there ever comes a day when we can't be together,
keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever."
