With her family at her side, Betty (Elisabeth Ann) Barker passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Dorothy Ley Hospice in Toronto. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Betty was surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren through a short battle with cancer. She will be forever missed as the Matriarch of her family of three children; Janice (Jim Perkins), Joyce (Tom Jackson) and Brad (Alexandra Vescan) and seven grandchildren: Taylor, Jordan, and Braydon Jackson, Andrew and Evan Perkins, and Ryan and Samantha Barker as well as extended family and friends.
Born September 3, 1934 on a farm near Briarcrest, Saskatchewan, she grew up amongst ten brothers and seven sisters. She left Saskatchewan in her early twenties to start a life in Toronto where she met and married Donald Barker (predeceased 2018). They raised their family and lived in Rexdale for more than 35 years. She enjoyed her work in the culinary program at Thistletown Collegiate. She was quick to help others and enjoyed playing bridge with friends.
Betty and Don retired to Barrie in 1996 and remained there for almost 20 years. She spent the last 3 years of her life making new friends and enjoying all the activities at Kingsway Place Retirement Home.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the excellent staff at St. Mike's Palliative Care and Dorothy Ley Hospice for their kind, compassionate care.
Donations in Betty's name can be made to Canadian Cancer Society, St. Michael's Hospital or Dorothy Ley Hospice.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life to follow for family and friends.
