Elias Papantoniou

November 17, 1935 — September 25, 2024

Toronto

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elias “Louis” Papantoniou on September 25th, 2024, at the age of 88 years old. Elias was born on November 17th, 1935 in Doliana, Arkadia, to Grigorios and Vasiliki (Nee Siavelis) Papantonis.

Elias was a beloved husband, father, pappou, brother, cousin, uncle and a pillar of the Greek community. He is survived by his loving wife Eleni of 63 years, his daughter, Christina and his cherished grandchildren Mya & Elias. He was predeceased by his children Gregory and Vasiliki whom he loved, treasured and always kept their memories close to his heart.

Throughout his life, Elias was deeply involved in the Greek community, the church, his work and sports. His passion for sports was evident through his involvement on the executive council of the Homer Soccer Club, the Pan-Hellenic Soccer Club and the National Soccer League. He enjoyed watching hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs play every Saturday night with his daughter. As his grandchildren grew older, he loved watching his granddaughter play soccer and his grandson play hockey. He always looked forward to listening to the stories of how they played and how the games turned out.

Elias cherished working alongside his younger brother George. As a tailor, he took great pride in wearing a suit and tie to work each day. Over the years, he built special relationships with his long-time customers who became a part of his family.

Elias looked forward to spending time with family and friends on the weekends, particularly at one of his favourite places, The Arcadian Park. He spent many years with friends on the committee contributing to the park’s development where Greek families could spend time together, celebrate the famous Kolokotronis and enjoy the outdoors.

Elias will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family, his community, his profession and his love for sports. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and community spirit will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. His memory will be in our hearts forever.
