Obituary

Edgar Robert Ladouceur, of Spencerville, Ontario, passed away peacefully after a short stay at Brockville General Hospital on May 7, 2026, at the age of 82, after several years of declining health.

Ed is survived by Annalee (Richardson), his loving wife of 57 years. Ed was the proud father of Emma Ladouceur of Charlottetown. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Bill Richardson; his wife, Lisa (Shuey); his sister-in-law, Katy Richardson, all of Miami; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was a father figure to Perry Dillabaugh of Kemptville, Erin Marriner of Whistler, and Jeff Marriner of South Mountain.

Ed was predeceased by his father, Aldema Ladouceur; his mother, Juliette (Thivierge) Ladouceur; and his siblings Alban, Marcelle, and Thelma.

Ed grew up on Maple Lane, in the Lindenlea neighbourhood of Ottawa, where he formed a close circle of friends who remained dear to him throughout his life. He met Annalee at his Grey Cup party in December 1968; they were engaged the following Valentine's Day and married by June 1969. A whirlwind romance that lasted 57 years, the bride, groom, and wedding party were fashionable for the Woodstock era. They were married in St. Thomas, Ontario, where Annalee grew up. Together, they made their first home in the old Orange Lodge in Pierces Corners, surviving the blizzard of ‘71. Next, moving to South Mountain, they loved their stone house, the community they became part of, and the many friends they made. There, they tried their hand at farming with horses, cattle, chickens, beekeeping, and homing pigeons. Their next move was to their log house in Spencerville, where Emma was born and raised. Ed spent his working years in a variety of agricultural businesses, including farm machinery, fertilizer, tile drainage, and soybeans, across Eastern Ontario.

In Spencerville, Annalee, Ed and Emma made lifelong friends in the Shanly neighbourhood and enjoyed supporting the many community events. As a family, their favourite travel destinations included Key Biscayne and Miami, visiting family. Ed loved to travel, particularly to France, and he and Annalee shared many memorable journeys with close friends and family to European destinations. They treasured every visit with Emma during her years living overseas.

Ed had a creative spirit and dabbled in painting, poetry, photography and writing. He enjoyed winemaking with his friends Mike and Tom. He delighted in reading and cooking, and he and Annalee enjoyed entertaining friends at their home. Ed cherished the many pets who shared his life over the years.

Annalee and Emma sincerely thank Dr. Loan Luong, the Kemptville District Hospital, the Brockville General Hospital, Ontario Health at Home, and close friends and family for their support and care throughout Ed’s journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Beth Donovan Hospice, Kemptville District Hospital or Brockville General Hospital .
