We are sad to announce the passing of Doug Specht in his 83rd year. Doug is lovingly mourned by his wife Donna of 58 years, daughter Donna Lynn Forward (Bob), Jeffrey (Josette) and Jennifer Specht Dingle (predeceased 2024); grandchildren Alex (Frankie), Madison, Romy (Dani) and Jeffrey Dingle, Robert Forward, Malia, Jonas and Christian Specht and his great-grandchildren Avelle and Quentin. Doug is survived by his brother Michael “Butch” Specht in Windsor, Ontario, in laws Lynn Sharpe, Cheryl Harris, Ron Deavy and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Bunny, Fran and Barbara.

Doug was born to Michael and Josephine Specht in Windsor, Ontario where he was an exceptional athlete excelling at hockey, baseball and football. He attended Brigham Young University in Utah on a football scholarship which led to a career with the Ottawa Rough Riders from 1965 to 1972.

He was named CFL Eastern All Star in 1966 and played in 3 Grey Cups winning back-to-back Cups in 1968 and 1969. His career ended in 1972 when he broke his neck in a car accident. He was inducted into the Windsor Essex Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Doug retired at the age of 82 after fifty years as a well-respected Bailiff in the Ottawa region.

Doug will be remembered for his great sense of humor and love of family. He enjoyed nothing better than going to Red Black games, golfing and sharing a drink with friends while discussing his passionate views of world events.

We would like to express thanks to the Palliative Care team at Ontario Health at Home, PSWs, nurses and Dr. Katrina Spacek for allowing Doug to spend his final days comfortably at home with his wife and family and a special thanks to his favorite doctor, Dr. John Saar for being there for him.
