Doug died suddenly in hospital from a cardiac arrest (of unknown cause but likely a pre-existing heart condition). He was in hospital for a fracture from a fall he had taken a few days previously. Doug was a first cousin but we grew up in different cities, so I really just got to know him a few years ago when I moved to Toronto. I am looking forward to hearing from his friends who knew him much better than I did.
We did talk every Sunday evening on the phone, and he let me know about his long-standing interests in Japanese and British Sci-fi, and in wrestling and hockey. And he regaled me always with his wordplays, especially his puns. He emailed me weekly and I can’t think how many different ways he played on his own name and our “cuz” relationship. I know he was also deeply into the music he loved, and an avid follower for decades of bands he had known and often had met.
I also am aware of how generous he was with his friends over the years. Please add your memories and photographs to the tribute wall.
