Doug Drouillard died peacefully with Pauline, his wife of 58 years, and his children by his side.
Born the eldest son of Henry and Shirley (née Fitzpatrick) Drouillard, Doug spent his youth working at his family's dry-cleaning business. He subsequently pursued theological studies at the Seminary before redirecting his academic path to the University of Windsor. Doug and Pauline met on a blind date and married on February 17, 1968. They moved to Ottawa where he built his career as a dedicated public servant.
His children, Marc (Sharon), Cheryl (Lee), and Janice (Geoff) will fondly remember summer camping trips, his enthusiastic hockey/ringette coaching, and family visits to Windsor. His grandchildren Anna, Max, Jordan, Tyler, and Caton will miss his goofy jokes and playful spirit. The family is especially grateful to have shared one last adventure together in Mexico this past Christmas.
Doug was predeceased by his parents and his beloved brother Ken. He will be missed by his sister Carol, brothers Dan, Gerry, and Mike, brother‑in‑law Bernard, sister‑in‑law Annette, and their families. His love of family extended to the many lively text conversations he shared with cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doug's selfless, kind, and generous nature was reflected in his years of service to his church, his readiness to volunteer, his strong work ethic, and his enjoyment of friendly conversations with neighbours during his long walks. He was never one to sit still, finding more satisfaction in helping a family member or neighbour than in taking time to relax himself.
The family would like to thank the Ottawa Civic Hospital Intensive Care Unit for the compassionate care he received during his brief stay.
Doug was a deeply empathic person and recent world events weighed heavily on his heart. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to help care for those less fortunate.
Funeral Mass and reception to be held at Divine Infant Parish on Thursday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m.
