Douglas Donald Blake Barton

June 17, 1952 — June 12, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of our father, brother, and friend, Doug. He will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Rachel Krieg (Mick) of Adelaide, Australia; his sister, Jo-Anne Barton (Ian Davies); his brother Alex Barton; and his best friend, Carl Zurbrigg. He was predeceased by his brother Mark Barton, mother Georgina Campbell, and father Ken Barton.

Doug was a fun-loving character who faced life’s challenges with humour and a beer. He was a hard-working man whose career spanned the spectrum of construction work. He was most proud of having been involved in the roofing of Canada’s War Museum, although he worked on many of Ottawa’s other landmark building sites. Doug was an enthusiastic traveller and a cyclist. He was also an avid reader and a strong proponent of public libraries. Plus, Doug had never met an animal he didn’t like.

A private Celebration of Life will be held on August 12. If you knew Doug, please raise a glass for him on that day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The John Howard Society of Ottawa ( https://johnhoward.on.ca/ottawa ).
