Doreen Gail Stevenson, born on December 3, 1944, and peacefully passing away on March 27, 2026, leaves behind a legacy marked by warmth, generosity, and an unwavering attentiveness to the lives of those she cherished. She was a woman who touched the hearts of many, remembered for her incredible conscientiousness; she never missed a birthday or special event, always sending cards and maintaining heartfelt correspondence by phone and letter with friends and relatives near and far.
Doreen’s life was beautifully multifaceted. She graced the world with her musical talents as a celloist with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, enchanting audiences with the rich, soulful sounds of her playing. She also embraced roles in a clerical position with the Ottawa Public School Board, and devoted herself with love and care as a homemaker. A dedicated churchgoer for much of her life, Doreen found solace, community, and purpose within her faith. Her vibrant spirit was further expressed in her passions: she delighted in her winter seasons spent in Texas, enjoyed lively games of shuffleboard, and upon occasion, would seek moments of excitement with trips to the casino.
Her heart was open, and her friendships deep. Doreen shared wonderful bonds with great friends Eileen Whitely, Nelda Styles, Jim O'Regan, Shirley Hess, Vicky Aswell, and Joyce Harrison, who enriched her days with laughter and companionship. Though her beloved husband Nelson Stevenson, adoptive parents Jean and Ernest Logan, adoptive brothers Terry and Daryl Logan, birth mother Thelma Clark, birth sister Camille Lauscher, step-daughter Dorothy McCorkell, step-son-in-law Wayne McCorkell, and step-daughter-in-law Judy Stevenson have passed on before her, their legacies live on in her heart and in the hearts of those she touched. She is also predeceased by close friends Margaret Morrison and Rev. E. Laura Butler with whom she shared many memories.
Doreen leaves behind a loving family who remember her with deep affection: her step-sons Ken Stevenson and Bill Stevenson; step-grandchildren Rob Stevenson and Kerri Stevenson, Jeff Resmer, and Joe & Shane McCorkell; sister Karen Coldwell; niece Wendy Coldwell; and nephew Graham Coldwell. Their lives were enriched immeasurably by her presence.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her personal support worker Sam Mesgena, her long time helper Carla Schlademann, the compassionate staff at Redwoods Retirement Home and the Queensway Carleton Palliative Care Team for the care and comfort they provided in Doreen’s final days.
A cherished figure whose gentle memory will linger in the hearts of all who knew her, Doreen Gail Stevenson’s life was a melody of compassion, dedication, and love—notes that will forever echo through the lives she touched.
An interment will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on June 8, 2026, offering those who loved her a final moment to celebrate and honor her enduring spirit.
