Dora de Palezieux

d. October 21, 2023

Dora de Palezieux (Ostevik) died peacefully in care on October 21, 2023, in Carleton Place, Ontario. She will be missed dearly. Dora was born in Eston, Saskatchewan in 1932 where her father (Peder) and mother (Lena) homesteaded. When Dora was 3 years old her family moved to Maneset, Norway to take over the family farm. Soon after arriving, Germany invaded and occupied Norway during the second world war. During those years her parents brought Canadian farm techniques to their town including a Canadian-style barn and a small hydroelectric dam. After the war, Dora returned to Canada where she met and married Frank de Palezieux in Calgary, Alberta. In Calgary, the couple raised their three children Ellen, Edmond, and Harvey, and enjoyed their time in the community of Willow Park. Frank, Dora, and Harvey eventually moved to Montreal, then Ottawa, after Ellen and Ed finished high school. Dora and Frank retired in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario until Franks’ death in 1998. Dora then lived across the country, spending years in each of Calgary, Vancouver, and again in Ottawa. Dora is predeceased by her brother Snore, her sister Palma, her husband Frank, and her daughter Ellen. She is survived by her sons Ed (Carla) and Harvey (Carey) and her wonderful grandchildren, Brianna (Jeff) and Great Grandson Benjamin, Kristopher (Holly), Braeden (Kaleigh). Dora was an excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed hosting dinners for her family and celebrating her Norwegian heritage. She had a lovely sense of style. She was an independent spirit and spent a year in retirement in Norway where she reconnected with her sisters Sylvia and Kari and their families before returning to Ottawa. Her children, grandchildren and sisters will miss her companionship and her quiet and calm spirit. A special thank you goes out to her granddaughter Brianna for spending so much time with her in her last months and bringing her treats. In addition, we would like to thank the wonderful staff at Stoneridge Manor, especially Rob and April as well as Dr. Gillian Buckley and the nursing staff at the Carleton Place Hospital. A special thank you to nurse Jennifer. Rest in Peace Dora.
