Donna Joan Slater

Donna Joan Slater(Brown) of Arnprior, Ontario passed away peacefully in her sleep on

April 17, 2024. She was 94 years of age. She is predeceased by her parents, Donald and Theo (Martyn) Brown, and her brothers and sister, Doug Brown, Jimmy Brown, and Ann Halliday. She is also predeceased by both her first husband, Howard Stanley Slater and her second husband John Hyland. She is survived by her family, Linda Slater of Arnprior, Tom (Heather) Slater of Guelph, and Ian (Karen Nemani) Slater of Toronto. She will also be missed by Tom and Ian’s children: Robbie, Sammi, Max, Geneva, and Cole.

Donna was the first volunteer at the Grove Nursing Home in Arnprior and was recognized for her years of service. She received the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada for her “significant contribution to compatriots, community, and to Canada” from the Governor General of Canada. She was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. A strong woman of faith, Donna believed in service above self. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends, but would not suffer fools lightly. She was assertive, determined and strong-willed, but always compassionate, shrewd and sharp to the end. A force to be reckoned with for sure! She will be missed, but has left us all with memories to keep her alive in our hearts.

As per Donna’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends in the late spring, early summer.

The family would like to thank The Staff of The Grove Nursing Home, The Staff of the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital, and Dawn Bradbury, Donna’s long time friend and caregiver.
