Dieter Botz passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by family and friends with a view of Kamaniskeg Lake at the Madawaska Valley Hospice. He will be remembered as a kind, fun-loving, compassionate, and easygoing man whose happy spirit touched everyone who knew him.

Above all else, Dieter was a devoted son, a loving father, a cherished partner, a fun-loving uncle and Opa, and a loyal friend. Dieter is survived by his daughter and her family: Melissa Botz, David Holl and Charlotte Holl; his partner, Linda Sorensen and their beloved dog Olive; his mother, Ellen Hobyan; his brothers and their families: Andreas Hobyan, and Sascha Hobyan, Ana Hobyan and children; and his stepchildren and their families: Miles Tettemer, Jody Tettemer, Tianna Tettemer, Amable Hernandez, Juliette Hernandez, Sebastian Hudder, Bridget Hudder, Nemo Tettemer, Sara Tettemer, Ella Tettemer, and Sadie Tettemer, Chirag Patel and Niko Patel.

Dieter had a deep love for the outdoors. An avid camper and boater, he found his greatest joy outside—on the water, around a campfire, or dancing with friends and family. He had a special gift for bringing people together and helping them discover a love for nature. One of his greatest joys was sharing this passion with his partner and dog, his daughter, and his grandchildren (whom he proudly introduced to camping and the wonders of the outdoors).

Dieter’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the memories made under open skies, and the love he shared so freely with others. His warmth, laughter, and gentle presence will be deeply missed. Here’s to the boat ride ahead, Dieter. Prost!

A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chatel Mont Madawaska (formerly Madawaska Ski Hill), located at 41430A Combermere Road, Barry’s Bay, ON K0J 2M0. A brief service of remembrance will begin at 2 p.m.
