Derek Leon Hagen

Derek Hagen, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the Montfort Hospital, after a brief illness. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Dorothy Hagen, his son Staecy and brothers Bruce and Barry, Derek leaves behind his loving wife Margie Christin, much loved stepdaughter Rebecca (Kevin) and adored granddaughter Meaghan. He will be fondly remembered by Margie’s siblings Chris (Diane), Cathy (Gordon deceased) and Carol along with many nieces and nephews.

Derek was born in Montreal and spent much of his early childhood in Nova Scotia. After attending high school in Shawville, Quebec, Derek moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick, for university and settled there for a number of years before eventually moving to Ottawa in 1980 to be closer to his son Staecy. Shortly after moving to Ottawa he met Margie, and they have been together since that time.

Derek was a long time employee of Acart Communications where he took on many roles, eventually settling in the role of computer manager until retiring in 2010. He had numerous interests, including reading, photography, camping, hiking, building models and collecting various things, including hats.

There will be a private celebration of Derek’s life with the family and close friends.
