Denise Emma Martel

With deep sorrow and profound love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Denise Emma Martel (née Proulx), of Rockland, Ontario, who passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2026, at the age of 80.

Denise was predeceased by her daughter Natalie and her granddaughter Michaela. She will be deeply missed by her son Mario (Lauri), her daughter Cadmiel, and her cherished grandchildren Mackenzie, Corah, Meirah, Devon, Talon, and Mathew. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters - Robert, Gene, Françoise, and Lise - her dear friend Lottie, and her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Born on January 22, 1945, in Ottawa, Ontario, Denise lived a life rich in family, friendship, and faith. Her greatest pride and joy was her family, and she created a home that was warm, welcoming, and filled with laughter for her children and the many friends who passed through its doors. Summers spent at Lac des Plages remain treasured memories—days filled with swimming and singing by the lake, and evenings of laughter that seemed to go on forever. Denise found her deepest happiness in knowing that her children and grandchildren were growing into independent, fulfilled, and loving people.

Denise possessed a creative spirit and a wide range of interests. She especially loved arts and crafts, music, games, good food, and good books. Her passion and career as a seamstress led her to build a custom drapery business and a sewing school where she taught young children the art of sewing. She was exceptionally skilled in crochet, and many are grateful to have something lovingly made by her hands. Some of her happiest moments were spent crafting with her sister friends, as well as on the legendary concert road trips with her sisters - traditions that became deeply treasured.

Denise was known for her compassion, quiet strength, humility, and unwavering generosity. Ever young at heart, she faced health challenges with courage, grace, and resilience, meeting each obstacle with determination. She will be forever remembered for her kindness, warmth, and the deep love she shared so freely with all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4030 Innes Road, Orléans, Ontario, K1C 1T1. A reception and opportunity to offer condolences will follow at 3:00 p.m.
