Debby,  Always loved.  Forever missed

July 21, 1952 - March 9, 2023

Deborah Joy Stevens (nee McCracken) passed peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in her 70th year.  For 5 years she bravely fought cancer while still living life to the fullest.  Debby’s thoughtfulness, kindness, sense of humour, optimism and welcoming smile will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Debby was born in Sudbury, Ontario and worked in Ontario, Alberta and across the pond in London, UK.  Debby excelled in her work as an Administrative Assistant as a meticulous and expert organizer.  In her spare time she loved to travel, needlepoint, crochet, craft and loved being with family and friends.   Five years ago Debby and her husband Andy retired to Barrie, Ontario.

Debby will be lovingly remembered and missed by her soul mate Andrew Stevens (Andy), her sister Ann Brown, Brother-in-law Dan, niece Jill, and nephew Greg, along with her British family, Andy’s parents Pam and Peter Stevens, Brother-in-law Simon (who will be running a marathon in Deb’s honour) and his wife Judy, and niece Chloe. Debby was predeceased by her Mother Dorothy (Dot) McCracken and Father Henry (Hal) McCracken.  Hal’s family immigrated to Canada from Northern Ireland and Debby was proud of her Irish heritage.

Debby’s family are deeply grateful and indebted to Dr. Sarah Rask and the doctors and nurses at the Royal Victoria Health Cancer Centre for their dedication and care throughout her treatments.  We are also very appreciative of the compassion shown by the wonderful staff at Hospice Simcoe where Debby was for such a short time.

Deb’s wish was to simply be cremated without a service and her ashes scattered in the sea.  The family will be honouring these wishes and scattering her ashes in the Irish Sea.

In lieu of flowers kindly make a memorial contribution to the COPE Service Dogs, a favourite charity of Deb’s, Hospice Simcoe or the RVH Cancer Centre.
