It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David John Thomas of natural causes. He was in the 96th year of an amazing life. David was blessed with good health his whole life. Hardly ever sick with no prescription drugs and no hospital stays. Fully active until about 5 years ago when his legs gave out for no reason. This forced him to first use a walking chair then confined him to a wheelchair and ultimately, for the past two years, requiring care in a Long-Term Care facility.

There is irony in David losing his ability to walk since he was a mailman for 30 years. He had many other jobs after arriving in Canada in 1957 but the mailman job proved to be his calling. He was beloved by his customers on the Alderwood route that he did for many years.

He retired in 1995 and quickly signed up to be a crossing guard. In his retirement years he was constantly walking and otherwise being active.

David was a star dart player and bowler and had many trophies to prove it. He was a proud member of the Canadian Legion for many years.

He had a passion for movies and country music and loved going to the casino where he had plenty of good fortune at the slots!

David is survived by his wife Jean of almost 72 years. He also leaves behind his sons David (Janice) and Peter (Sonya) and his son in law David Yoshiki. David was predeceased by his only daughter Kim and his youngest son Brian. His large family includes Grandsons Jeffrey (Andrea) and Christopher as well as Granddaughters Grace (Darren), Laura, Sarah (River) and Megan. Many great grandchildren complete the amazing family tree he leaves behind.

The family would like to thank the staff at Westbury Long Term Care on the West Mall. They all treated David with love, dignity and respect. Special thanks to Donna.

David had a great life and made many people happy along the way.

He will be deeply missed and he will never be forgotten.
