In the late afternoon of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, David took his final breath, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
David was the youngest child of five born to James Arthur and Olive Barbara (nee Colfe). Growing up predominately in Ottawa and Montreal, David always kept his parents and older siblings on their toes. His mischievous adventures were often a going concern, but his big smile, twinkling eyes and quick wit meant that he was always forgiven.
The work ethic instilled by his parents, combined with his inherent ability to connect with others, led to a successful career spanning close to forty years at Canadian Tire Corporation. There he earned the respect of his colleagues and customers alike, mentoring many new recruits and forging long-standing relationships along the way.
Dave had a great love of sports. “Buzz” played for many years in the Ottawa-Nepean Touch Football League (ONTFL) and went on to become a player/coach in the Senior Men’s Division. Dave was a self-taught musician, and his guitar was always within reach.
David was predeceased by his father James Arthur in 1984, his dear mother Ollie in 1995, and his sister Ann (Waycott) in 2023. A dear brother and friend, Dave will be forever loved and missed by his remaining siblings Susan (Martin), Bill and Barbara (Martin), by his in-laws Alan, Paul and Mary Louise, by his nieces and nephews Trevor (Jocilyn), Chris (Sally), Scott (Leah), Christa (Mike), Craig (Terri-Lynn), Darcy (Lindsay), Lindsay (Jonathan), Conor (Emily), Shannon (Andrew), and Felix (Camille), and by his many great nieces and nephews.
We love you Dave and we’ll see you on the other side!
The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Asmis and the staff of the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre as well as Nurses Linda and Veronica from Saint Elizabeth Health for their unwavering support and compassionate care.
Following David’s wishes, cremation has occurred. Friends are invited to join the family at a graveside service in celebration of David’s life on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 1pm at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
