Obituary

David ‘Brian’ MacLaren passed away on June 8th, 2026 in Mississauga, Ontario at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife Lorraine Bailey, daughter Crystal Dawn MacLaren (Steven Woods), stepchildren Lauren Bailey (Morgan Clamp), Ryan Bailey, granddaughter Davis Lorraine, brother Mark MacLaren, sister Lydia Hughes, brother Keith MacLaren, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his father Keith Whitford MacLaren, mother Sophia MacLaren Clarke, and wife Dianne Lynn (nee Branton).

Brian had an unquestionable thirst for knowledge from his epistemological pursuits as a university student and up to his later years in the field of transplant. He had a keen and intelligent mind, and was quick witted. He was known for his kindness and generosity. He had a love & loyalty to the Toronto Maple Leafs & the Toronto Argonauts. Brian was a fighter who spent years trying to overcome several medical challenges. He faced his diseases head on, making sure to understand and take charge of his illness in the best way he could. He was respected for this knowledge by his various doctors and recognized by the great work he did to provide compassionate, patient centered care. His work in the Canadian kidney world over the past 18 years was a tremendous help to countless kidney patients, donors and their family members. 

A celebration of life will take place at St. John's Dixie Crematorium (737 Dundas Street East Mississauga Ontario L4Y 2B5) on Saturday, June 20th, from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Following the service, guests are invited to join Brian's family at The Donegal Arms (136 Lakeshore Rd East (at Hurontario) Mississauga L5G 3E8).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontario Kidney Foundation, the Toronto General Hospital Foundation, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
